Porcelain stoneware tiles are normally less thick than tiles made of other natural materials. A marble floor, for example, rarely has a thickness of less than 18/20 millimetres (going below this measure is not technically impossible, but is rather unusual), while porcelain stoneware slabs are usually available in thicknesses ranging from 6 to 20 millimetres.
The success of this type of thin tiles is linked to their versatility and functionality, but also to the possibility of making particularly large slabs, up to 160x320 cm. The reduction in thickness, in fact, obviously involves a reduction in the weight of the tile, and therefore allows larger slabs to be obtained without this making their installation excessively difficult or risky. The use of large format slabs, in addition to achieving particular aesthetic effects, also reduces the amount of leakage, making floors made of thin porcelain stoneware even easier to clean and sanitise.
It should be noted that the reduction in thickness does not negatively affect the performance of porcelain stoneware tiles; infact, the latter, despite being much thinner than standard thickness porcelain stoneware tiles, retain the same characteristics in terms of resistance to scratching, abrasion, atmospheric agents and water.
Thin porcelain stoneware: the perfect choice for overlays
Thin porcelain stoneware tiles are a very functional choice in case you intend to pave a surface without removing the layer of tiles already present. This results – not a less important detail, in the case of a renovation – also in a significant reduction of dirt and dust produced during the work, which can therefore be completed in a short time, creating minimal discomfort.
